It took so much out of her each time she explained it
Participant 1: I watched how much it took out of her each time she had to explain it to someone, so that's why I'm wondering if there is any way to make who the best person to talk with known? This will take the burden of thinking "I'm going to have to tell this to ten different people" off their shoulders.
Participant 2: I don't want to run to ten people and tell my story. I want to go to person X and say I need help with accommodations, I need some help in the classroom, and they would connect me.
Recommendations
-
Promote SANE nurses as supporters for victims/survivors. Ideally, this would happen in the context of a formal partnership with SANE nurses, which includes 24/7 availability of SANE nurse services on campus.
-
Emphasize the victim's right to decide whether they would like to report the incident after they have disclosed it to the university. Ensure the victim is aware of the formal and informal routes for reporting, including the option of reporting to the police. Clearly communicate any limits to confidentiality.
