It is not the victim’s fault
I feel like that’s where SMU should use, like, a workshop, or like, the million other activities that they have, and be like alright, this is the deal with sexual violence, this is what’s supposed to be done, and have in big words on a poster saying, "It is not the victim’s fault." It’s not because of what you were wearing or because what you were doing at the moment. It is never their fault.
Recommendations
-
Ensure all sexual violence prevention and response education and training opportunities actively deconstruct victim-blaming, rape myths and gender norms. Ensure these sessions take an intersectional approach to understanding sexual violence and supporting victim/survivors.
-
Use multiple formats to deliver accessible education about the SV/SA policy during orientation and at least once per semester
