Middle Eastern Female

They would judge you because you’re from similar cultural backgrounds

Participant 1: Some people would still be hesitant to opening up to someone from their country, just in case they feel like they would judge them more, especially in the Middle East.
Participant 2: I think what she said is right, because a lot of people - I’ve been to psychologists that were cultured. Not all of them - I don’t wanna judge everyone - but a lot of them would have some sort of like prejudice. Or, like, they would think that if you tell them something, or you’re very open, they would judge you because you’re from similar cultural backgrounds. So, I think that would scare a lot of people from talking to someone with a similar cultural background.

Recommendations

  • When responding to a disclosure or report of sexual violence involving racially or ethnically marginalized students, provide these students with the choice to work with someone who shares their cultural or racial identity or someone who does not.
