Diverse sets of people is appreciated and essential

Bringing in diverse sets of people for the committee is appreciated and essential. But, we also need to take extreme care in bringing people into the committee, because in cases where someone is going to be a little bit biased- a demographic bias, this can impact what their intuition will be at times- they may support people just because they are from [a given culture/community] and that’s not right to do.

Recommendations

  • Engage external investigators to adjudicate all sexual assault cases. Describe the process by which investigators are selected within the policy. Communicate this process to complainants and respondents.

  • Engage with student leaders from diverse cultural backgrounds and genders when revising policy content and associated services. Ensure the concerns raised by these students are foregrounded in policy development and application.
