Having knowledge about trans experience

I feel [...] like trans people might have different experiences [...] with sexual assault than a cis person might. Um, so, like, having someone [provide support] that would be knowledgeable or experienced abou the trans experience [...] – it might be easier for that person to be more, like, caring and – and more non-judgemental as well.

Recommendations

  • When responding to a disclosure or report of sexual violence, provide students with the choice to work with someone who shares their gender identity or someone who does not. This applies to the victim/survivor or complainant and respondent.

  • Engage in activities to develop cultural responsiveness as it pertains to sexual violence prevention and response. Apply culturally responsive practices in these areas.
