It is hard to trust people

Counselling downstairs, for me, I was like, "I cannot talk about it with someone who is male," and it ended up being someone who was male [laughing]. [...] Now for me, everybody is not same, every guy is not same. But when you’ve been through that [sexual assault] it doesn’t matter. Until you meet other people different from that it is even hard to trust people.

Recommendations

  • When responding to a disclosure or report of sexual violence, provide students with the choice to work with someone who shares their gender identity or someone who does not. This applies to the victim/survivor or complainant and respondent.
