Artist's description: My piece represents the importance of empathy, diversity, perspective-taking, and collaboration. I think when it comes to working through policies we need to surrender to the process and for me, that is messy, diverse, and full of collaboration. I am so honored to have had the opportunity to work through an example of this radical shift of policymaking with such an incredible team that honored the mess and strove towards diversity.

Recommendations

  • Use approaches that are trauma informed and survivor-centred.

  • Ensure all sexual violence prevention and response education and training opportunities actively deconstruct victim-blaming, rape myths and gender norms. Ensure these sessions take an intersectional approach to understanding sexual violence and supporting victim/survivors.
