Briana Miller

Phase 3 Committee Member

Briana Miller (she/her) is the Coordinator of the Gender-Based Violence Prevention Project a the YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs. She is currently a partner on the CAPSAP project as well as part of the Gender Specific Workshop working group. She is passionate about social justice issues and engaging people in collaborative conversations to create social and systemic change. Briana has actively worked with newcomers for over 7 years and specifically in settlement services for 5.

In her current work she continues to advocate and support service providers to be more culturally informed in their work around GBV prevention with newcomers while also working directly with newcomer youth and families. Briana believes in creating safer spaces for peoples voices to be amplified to inform the programs and services that are meant to serve them. Briana was also part of initiating and supporting the launch of a SQNC, Supporting Queer Newcomers  Committee at the YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs to create safer spaces for 2slgbtqia+ newcomers.

Previous to her work in Immigrant Services Briana was a Youth Engagement Coordinator for the Sexual Violence Strategy of Nova Scotia  and facilitated population specific engagement conversations across the province to inform the strategy. She brings years of facilitation, community engagement and youth work experience into this project. All of her work is deeply rooted in feminist, anti-racist, anti oppressive and trauma informed practices.
