A lot about sexual assault cases in residence

Participant 1: I’ve heard about the policy and everything, but I’ve also heard a lot about sexual assault cases in residence, and how it’s, like, a real problem. So, we know it’s a problem, but how is the problem being solved? That I don’t know. Like, it’s there if we need it, but is it really doing anything?
Facilitator: Okay, it makes sense, because it’s there but it’s not really doing anything, so, what’s the point to have the thing?
Participant 1: Yeah.

Recommendations

  • Engage external investigators to adjudicate all sexual assault cases. Describe the process by which investigators are selected within the policy. Communicate this process to complainants and respondents.

  • Offer fictionalized but representative examples of how disclosures and reports to the university have been handled.
