I’m sure you’ve been groped in the club before

Participant 1: But what kind of sexual assault is here?
Facilitator: If anyone tries to touch your friend, like, that is a problem.
Participant 1: I mean like, come on guys. We are all from the Caribbean here! I'm sure you've been groped in the club before. I think there is a different level here.
Participant 2: Yeah, that's true!
Participant 3: By the time you turn around, they're already gone.
Participant 1: Like, if a guy approaches me some kind of way because of how I'm dressed, that's not right, but still, you have to brace yourself for that.

Recommendations

  • Ensure all sexual violence prevention and response education and training opportunities actively deconstruct victim-blaming, rape myths and gender norms. Ensure these sessions take an intersectional approach to understanding sexual violence and supporting victim/survivors.
