African Female

It happens both ways

I think that if the men [were] here, maybe the men would want to hear how I don’t want to be treated. Like one of the participants said, um, some people don’t know that its wrong when they sexually harass someone, whether its in the words or in their actions. Men need to hear this from women; and women need to know how they sexually harrass the man, too, because it happens both ways.

Recommendations

  • Including male students across cultures in discussions of sexual violence, gender stereotypes, and stereotypes of masculinity.

  • In education and awareness campaigns, highlight the fact that a significant percentage of men have experienced sexual violence in their lives.
