The mess that comes with it

I don't know how well this [policy] actually works in letting people know that there's a safe environment for them where it is a non-judgmental. Like, I get that forms are out there and that the posters are out [...] and the people are [...] there, but I have people myself that didn’t speak about their assault for years, or didn’t go to the police, or didn't talk [to] anybody about it, because they didn't want the mess that comes with it. I think that is the biggest thing we need to get rid of is how hard it can be for people. [...] I just don't know how effective it [the policy] would be if someone were to come forward.

Recommendations

  • Develop a one-page document for parents/guardians of students that highlights key policy points and links to sexual assault resources and supports available in Canada.
